together with 45/2.8f Makro for watch photos at home/events/fairs ...?

At the moment I use Canon EOS 40D with 100/2.8f Makro and 17-55/2.8f (or Leica D-Lux 5).

The idea is to get an at least comporable, but less heavy, equipment.

Would probably go for one of the available kitīs (14-45mm or 14-140mm) + Makro.

Any thoughts/eperiences ...?

Thanks!

Oliver

Hmmm...

You may gain a bit extra portability - I'm not so sure of the wider macros but is the 100mm macro really that heavy? wink.gif

As for the 17-55, there seems to be a lot of overlap with a 14-45.

the weights are:

GH2 392g vs 40D 740g

45mm/2.8 Makro 225g vs 100mm/2.8f Makro 600g

14-45mm/3.5 195g vs 17-55mm/2.8 645g

Quite a big difference, isnīt it?

1.2 kilos if my math is correct

November 17 2011, 12:17 AM

Look at it this way, I could go to the gym and loose 1.2 kilos fairly easy and improve my long term health... wink.gif, so you got to figure there are other factors beside the weight. (note you could do both for a net of 2.4 kilos wink.gif).

I have to agree that from time to time the big black dSLRs get old to lug around. The 40D and 100mm macro is a good kit... and will be serviceable for some time to come.

I have no experience with the Lumix DMC GH2 (with or without a macro). If you can afford it... why not. I guess you have looked at the examples on flickr...

Accessories (flash etc) are no problem?

For fun you could try a Leica film rangefinder with the Visoflex System (it's a mirror reflex box that goes between the camera and lens that allows you to focus on a ground glass)...

Can we see some of your recent macro images?

Casey

Considered the 60mm Macro for the 40d?

November 17 2011, 6:40 PM

It's MUCH smaller then the 100mm and really just an excellent lens for watch work. Working distance is smaller, but I found that made things easier for me

60mm Macro was considered as my first ...

lens when buying the camera, but prefered the 100mm for even more tiny details.

Maybe it could be a good choice for fairs - 335g. One more lens instead of a new equipment.
I should give it a thought wink.gif

It also has good AF

which isn't a given for macro lenses, but I've found essential for on-the-fly work like shows or stores and such
