Alfred Stieglitz (1864 - 1946) was an American photographer and modern art promoter who was instrumental in making photography an accepted art form. For this he used his New York art galleries to feature (initially European) artists... and later on photographers.
Stieglitz was in fact a photographer, but he is more likely to be remembered as a gallery owner, promoter, and marriage to painter Georgia O'Keeffe. I enjoyed the history of the period as well as interview and background on O'Keeffe...
