Well, I'm back in commission

I have been pretty sick for about 4 weeks now. It started out as an inner ear infection. The doctor gave me augmetin for an antibiotic. Well, it gave me horrific stomach issues for three weeks. I was tested for e coli and for salmonella. Thank God they came out negative. The doctor said it had to be caused as a terrible side effect from the antibiotic. Just this past Friday I started feeling better....and so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't ever want to go through that again.

Wow sweetie glad you are ok

Four weeks? I have not been that ill in about 7 years. One of my employees has had an inner ear thing for weeks now.

So glad you are on the mend. Sometimes the cure really can be worse than what ails you. Sure sorry you had to go through that!

I'm considering doing the same thing

March 11 2008, 8:11 AM

saying I'm allergic. I never want to go through that again. I only left the house 3 times in 3 weeks. Twice was to go to the doctor, the other was for a wake.

Glad to hear

March 11 2008, 10:17 AM

that you are ok. That must have been terrible. As far as augmentin or any other drug you don't want, just say no. It is your body and you should be firm with a lot of things. Most people just let the doc do whatever b/c afterall, it is a doctor. They are not God but most of them think they are.
Why didn't they consider that to be a side effect of the med instead of putting you thru all of those tests? Do you have good insurance? Don't get me started. ( I think it's too late).

It pisses me off that most people give the doctors all of the control. I have watched such vulnerability in people who don't understand why the doctor is doing this or that but never questions them. I have a reputation for telling the doctor what I think my diagnosis is and if I don't want a particular drug or any drug for that matter, I tell them.

Wooo, I digress. Just know that it is the only body you have. Always go with your intuition in taking care of it. I hope you continue to get well.

Know what finally got my stomach settled

March 11 2008, 10:51 AM

and got me back to normal? Believe it or not........good old fashioned Paregoric. The doctor prescribed that for me and in 2 days, I was feeling normal again. What a blast from the past! Sometimes the old time medicine is the best.

Paregoric comes in handy. I used to use it for upset stomach and bowels when Frankie kept a supply on hand for the kids during their younger days. Can't get it no mo'!

What's the difference between a doctor and God?

March 12 2008, 7:42 AM

God doesn't think he's a doctor.

March 11 2008, 8:05 PM

I am sorry you were so sick! Paregoric is almost a miracle.

Whenever I utter the word "exercise" I will rinse my mouth with chocolate!

Morphine.

March 11 2008, 9:21 PM

I think I liked it best for the anise flavoring in it. Must be why I'm such an Absinthe freak.

You might like Sambuca. It's an Italian anise flavored liquer.

So, no opium grasshopper?

March 11 2008, 9:50 PM

Did it not have opium in it? I thought I was told that it did. Whatever. It works.

I remember after paragoric was parapectalin (sp?) I guess same thing.

It does mellow one out including the tummy.
