Probably gonna be a little slow here for awhile until the word gets out, but I'm sure we'll be primed for next year!
Coach Kelsey , Chick and John Petley have been around forever(Kelsey a little bit less forever than the other two, they're hittin on the endangered list!)
You guys have made us proud and and kept the fire alive.
I remember when Jerry Taylor and Dick Russ first walked through those doors from an 8-man football school in Mt. Upton, little did they know the dynasty and tradition they were about to unleash on an unsuspecting Chenango Forks.
And Ed Fetzko who labored unceremoniously behind the scenes building the program starting with us in seventh grade. Rarely did Fetz get to see the fruition of his efforts in person as he was always away scouting next weeks foe. Undefeated in 7th,8th and JV's he handed us off to Jerry and Dick.
1969 saw our first Championship (7-1) and state ranking. Ironically todays head coach Green revived the ancient art of the drop kick and received almost as much press as the 80-6 drubbing of bitter rival Windsor! Two games of over 700yds offense and holding our opponents to minus yardage. As well as the innovation of soccer spikes and their treachery in the "Mud Bowl".
1970 ushered in our first undefeated season and thus began the storied Tradition of Chenango Forks Football.

'01, '02, 2003 You guys have no idea what you have done for us fossils of days gone by, those teams of years past that could only dream of sectional playoffs or a shot at a state championship...you are our heroes, you have carried the torch well!!
GO BLUE!!!

...as an after thought it would be neat to have members of teams of different years note their team history ,highlights and perspectives of their seasons.

Old Fossils?

November 21 2003, 7:57 PM

You are just a whippersnapper. Us old fossils from the late 50's early 60's (class of 63 last played in 1962)can tell you some real stories of Jim Ritter
and Ken Spennard. One night at the old school at CF on the river flats when practice hadn't been going so well "Zippie" (coach Spennard) sneaked off and when he came back had both hands behind his back. As a bad play ended he pulled the shotgun up and shot a crow out of a tree next to the practice field. Got our attention for real.

Go Devils.

...never knew Spenard ever coached football, imagine a coach doing something like that today??
We started out on that field , did endless sprints up the bank behind the school.
Whippersnapper!
