I just today read this thread...

I would like to caution anyone who intends to irradiate their optics.
It is a well known effect that particulate radiation increases the opacity of
optical fibres. As an extension to this, I would assume that it does
the same to glass. If on the other hand only electro-magnetic radiation
is being considered, then the fungi may not be properly destroyed
unless all opaque components are properly disassembled and irradiated.
Furthermore, rubber is known to age more when irradiated by UV.
