Sammy's Grocery in Bucktown.

Sammy's is a neighborhood grocery on Live Oak Street in Bucktown with a dining area and full kitchen. Daily plate lunch specials include the usual favorites, red beans, veal cutlets, meat balls and spaghetti, fried catfish and trout which are both truly marvelous. One of the Thursday specials is a meatball po-boy with melted mozzarella and red gravy. The roast beef po-boys are classic N'awlins sloppy, good, garlicky sandwiches. Diners sit at tables toward the rear of the grocery section. There are both smoking and non smoking areas, TV to watch the news, a full deli and butcher section which boasts, among other things, Creole Country Sausage (gooood boudin, but you must take this home to heat and eat).

Lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Call ahead and order for take out and you won't have a wait. Or, one might sit down at a table among the grocery shelves and watch the news on TV. If you don't own a pair of white shrimp boots, do not despair! You will be equally welcome in shirt and tie or cutoffs and a tank top!
