Sammy's is the closest thing to a neighborhood grocery that is available to me in my part of Metairie. Sammy's is a multi faceted operation. It includes your basic mom and pop food market, a top notch butcher shop that produces fabulous Italian sausage, a fantastic deli with a seating area amongst the grocery shelves where you can dine on the usual suspects on the regular days......red beans and rice on.....guess when? Sketties and meatballs on Thursdays. Also on the Thursday specials board is a meatball poboy (I'm sorry if I keep raving about those.....I LOVE them! It is sooooo "too much" and "you really shouldn't eat that kinda stuff" and excessive and full of hot melty mozzarella and mmmmmm......). On Fridays you can eat yourself silly with catfish and a baked macaroni side that would make Rocky and Carlos shrink with embarrassment! A primo roast beef poboy can be had at Sammy's any day of the week and you WILL need just as many napkins to eat same as you would at Domilise's!

The place even caters if you would so desire them to do so and around holiday season they'll even fry a turkey or two for ya! Berled crawfish in season at your table is also available with all the other goodies Monday thru Saturday, lunch and dinner.

The last time I was there (yesterday! maybe this evening!) I noticed that they have oysters available in bulk. A half gallon will set you back about $17.00.

Oops, sorry! Didn't mean to wax ecstatic about a plain ol' corner sto', but this place deserves the exposure

Sammy's is located at 801 Live Oak Street in Bucktown, U.S.A.
