Restaurant des Familles in Lafitte (Crown Point)

We had a hankering for a good stuffed flounder. Decided to head on down to des Familles to see if they still had any.

Started out with a cup of their seafood okra gumbo. In our opinions to date, theirs is the best we've found anywhere. Can't get the seafood any fresher than there. Seasoned just right and yet not overpowering. À la Maman!

The salad was very fresh and crisp with a wonderful Italian dressing. I left some lettuce, but didn't leave any of the fresh minced garlic from the dressing. The garlic bread worked just fine for sopping up every piece.

Woooohoooo. Yes, they had the stuffed flounder sans tête. The whole flounder arrived sliced in the middle with a huge serving of crab stuffing. I won't say it was "to die for," but it makes you want to stay around a good while to enjoy it longer. We took a two-person vote and decided it is the best stuffed flounder we've had, and we've tried a lot of them. As if that wasn't enough to fill us, it also came with garlic roasted new potatoes. We managed to stuff them down, too.

The Algerine had the bread pudding for dessert. He said it was good, but suffered later. He forgets he had that reflux surgery that shrank his stomach a good bit. Still wants to stuff himself.

I got the black forest cheesecake to go. Couldn't cram any more in and (contrary to popular belief) I haven't managed to develop a second stomach like a ruminant.

We left around 9pm and the Bayou Barn next door was really getting cranked up. There were two buses full of touristas on the loose. Talk about aayyee-ing and chanky-chankin' galore! Almost made us want to crash it, but we must be getting old or something. Headed home.

Des Familles is always on the list for a return.
