Had lunch at Voleo's (pronounced "Vo-lee-o's"). "Different" is how I'd describe the gumbos. Seafood gumbo very light on flavor, heavy on pepper, and thin. Chicken gumbo thick, with what I call a "burnt Cajun roux" and a distinct liver/gizzard flavor. Trout Almondine was fresh and very well prepared--light, greaseless coating with a buttery sauce filled with almonds (locals kept coming in raving about the stuffed flounder but that was after we ordered). Birthday person had a fried seafood platter and pronounced it very good. This is a very casual, friendly place--a guy came in selling fresh picked blackberries (we had passed many families on the road out collecting berries) and the waitress and cook split a few gallons and offered us all we cared to eat but we were already full.
Voleo's is known for it's German food, especially the Wiener Schnitzel. I would like to try it but couldn't put myself in the mood for meat in this town which is surrounded by water and fishing boats.

Went there last summer with Rita and Earl and we all had the stuffed "flounder" which was actually trout (I think). Anyway, the stuffing was superb - crunchy with pecans, meaty with lots of shrimp and crawfish, and large in quantity!
The decor was eclectic, at best. Very "down home" bayou style, reminding me of family vacations in Lafitte in the 50s and 60s. The staff was very friendly; cook recited the recipe but we were so stuffed from lunch that none of our brains retained more than the basic gist - what a pity!
Earl did not care for the gumbo, even though he ate two bowls of it.
Had the same dish at Restaurant des Familles recently and must say that Voleo's stuffing beat RdF's hands down.
