Friday night we went to Airline Motors for dinner. They just re-opened last Monday. The place was pretty busy but not packed. We ate there a couple of years ago and were not impressed at all. This time was a completely different story. We sat in the smoking section as usual. It's next to the very dimly lit bar. I don't think they have changed the menu at all. Our appetizers were eggplant etouffee and shrimp & crab gumbo. The eggplant etouffee was a piece of fried eggplant covered with lots of crawfish in an etouffee sauce. Very tasty. The dark brown gumbo was loaded with decent sized shrimp and it was so good THE CONTROLLER said it tasted almost as good as our friend's mama's gumbo - quite a compliment. The rice was served on the side which I like. Our entrees were chicken fried steak with white gravy and shrimp on bun. The chicken fried steak had "wonderful" white gravy and the "best" brown gravy THE CONTROLLER has eaten. The mashed potatoes were suspiciously creamy and may have been instant. My shrimp sandwich had a lot of large, delicious shrimp. It was great! There was sweet homemade mayo on the bread along with (I think) a little butter. If you go, ask to sit in Stephanie's section. She took care of us. They are open every day from 5 AM to 10 PM except Sunday but that will change we were told. It is definitely a family restaurant, very casual. Come to LaPlace, y'all!
Notice the large safe in between the restrooms:

My pictures always look darker here than on my home computer. I don't know if you'll be able to see the safe.
