At One, my DC and I sat at the food bar and were amazed at how friendly the chefs there are. They are increadably busy, but take the time to chat with you and explain a lot of what they were doing and the prior work they did to get the food to where it was. At one point, the chef even picked up our wine bottle to refill my glass. Nice!
The food was so tasty I thought I could cry (emotional turning 30 year old chick that I am). We started with the grilled oysters and the gnocchi, then I had the duck and okra gumbo and my DC had the seared asian style tuna salad, both fantastic. The gumbo has enough meat in it to be a meal. The salad tasted great. For entrees my DC had the sirloin, very good, and I had the cuchon d'lait (Frankie recomended) with root veggies (turnip and parsnip) and slaw. I don't have enough words to tell you how great this tasted. From the first bite to the last I was in culinary exstasy.
Oh ya, then dessert! Strawberry shortcake, very good as well. How I didn't pop after all this, I don't know.
The chef mentioned that the summer menu is coming out in about a week.
I know the place is still new, but these guys are right on.
I highly recomend One. It's like fine dining at a neighborhood price and feel.
