Scary might not be a very fitting expression as the dinosaurs on the cover don’t really look fit to scare anybody, no matter the age. However, I do believe to know what Petrie meant. Did you realize that the appearance of the characters on the covers has changed since the cover of the seventh movie? I believe someone is trying to let the dinosaurs look younger and “cuter” yet fails in the attempt for my opinion. Since the seventh movie the characters on the movie covers got chubby faces and many other baby-like roundings which let them appear somewhat puffed up. Petrie also changed and looks alarmingly similar to the “bat-version” of him that can be found on many relatively new land before time products (unlike the Petrie we know from the movie the bat version has wings supported by more than one bone (something that no Pterosaur had), a crooked beak, rings below the eyes and a few hairs on his head and neck. This version of Petrie looks as if he would be extremely old) though this seems to be less extreme on the cover of the tenth movie than it was an the last few movie covers. They have changed the covers of every land before time movie a while ago and I think (but I’m not absolutely sure about it) that all but the first movie’s cover now show the “puffed up” versions of the characters. Personally I would prefer the covers to show the characters the way they look in the movies as it has been the case on the older versions of the covers of LBT 2 to 6 and as it is still the case on the cover of the original movie.
