Response to Let's Start A Petition!
The fact that few people comment and ahuge number watch here is a problem. The OWHA can cleary assume no one wants change by the lack of response. So it is up to you to make your opinion known her and we can email formally your responses.
Make no bones about it OWHA has addressed change but can't get it together because of everyone's self interest. Having mulitple age championships the size of OWHA on the same weekend was good when we were small. Look we're kinda big now. If a parent wants to support both daughters, they can't get to games.
We suggest a split over two weekends. In order t utilize hour appropriate game times a younger gorup should be combined with an older group. ie atom Bantam, Junior one weekend novice, peewee, miget the other. Or A,AA one weekend and BB,b,c etc the other.
The teams should be rated by c0ommittee and perormance against same competition. They either accept the rating or have cause to appeal it. A full round robin should present the semi finalists and the champions bring home the gold, having gone thru everyone.
This is where the problem is. Owha feels it's mandate is to allow every girl a chance to compete at provincials and not necessarily earn it. Why should a Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sault girl automatically advance to the provincials over say a Stoney Creek Player who got beat out by Niagara. This philosphy is consistant with Houseleague in a participation game. It doesn't hold water in top competition. Having League Champions represent their leagues is entirley more consistant with having earned that shot.
So instead of changing and trying to keep the masses happy Owha would rather have a team win by chance and luck of the draw which they manipulate depending on how they feel a team should compete. If they even drew numbers for the pool, it would be FAIRER.
Change can always be effected if people let their opinions be known here. We are your communicator and believe me 240,000 people can't be wrong!!!!
