hey guyz, who said it's gonna happen over night, chill out. best thing to do for next year is get it so that we can whiddle out the so called "filler" players, those midgets who are not the "elite" but who are there because spots needed to be filled on the roster.(hence depeletion of talent pool in the 3 yr midgetAA division).
the easiest way i can see is to address the issue of age groups and refine them. the double cohort affects the age group change made a few years ago.. midget to 3 yrs.
intermediate can be defined as gr 13-age 21. less and less girls are staying for another half year of highschool, most are moving on to post secondary education. so therefore who is going to fill the void? midget players, is this getting out of hand? quite possibly. what coach is gonna pick a team full of last year midgets and 1st year intermediates just to have to loose basically the whole team and start over.
how many players actually intermediate age playin intermediateAA? and how many of those people are 2,3,4th yr players. if i recal the numbers are extremly small.. less than 10%.
so what to do, change the age group of intermediate (ex. 1987,86,85,84) but this will effect everyone else.
does midget have to change? not really no... or it can go back to 2 yrs and bantam to 2 yrs, and peewee to 3.(gr 6-8), this helps out too.. i know of some last year bantams who feel out of place because they are in highschool and the majority of their team is not.~ maturity level jumps. but most of the interA/BB players are actually intermediate age (85,84,83,82) so that doesnt' need to change.
you want to make junior hockey a league of it's own, give it it's own age group, and restrict it to that. if a bantam feels they can play at that level, put them in midAA for a year. baby steps guys. u let one girl go your expected to do the same for more.
restrict north metro to 10 teams, make the talent pool smaller, leaside looks like their a little out of place, and does really hamilton, burlington, oakville all need their own teams? look 3 week teams, one right next to each other geographically- to get rid of some fillers take a team out.
if scouting is the issue, then the last 2 yrs of highschool are where they're gonna get scouted, or even a year or 2 after that.
