Response to Latest from midget team manager...
TO All Intermediate Teams - New League
UPDATE: March 25, 2004
First of all, we apologize for not getting to everyone sooner. We are hoping the following information will answer many questions, but please feel free to give us a call for clarification.
First of all the league is approved by the OWHA and the consensus is the name is be PWHL - Provincial Women's Hockey League. We have to proceed to register the name and will be doing this when the consitution is complete; which should be very shortly.
5 nominations have been received for 2 positions on the executive. We will be requesting your votes likely the first of next week. Your quick response will be appreciated.
16 teams from Windsor to Durham have registered. We have had 4 inquiries from Midget AA teams. We expect an application from 1 of the 4. The application will be considered when we receive information in writing.
As noted at the last league meeting, scheduling will be done in by the executive. The purpose of this is to minimize travel time and cost for all teams. Example, teams going west will make 1 trip but hopefully play at least 2 games if not 3 against separate teams. Same thing if you are going east. We are considering a 2 division league which will have a further impact on time and cost and our proposal will be presented once the executive is in place. The league will vote on this. Thinking is to play your own division twice and the teams in the other division once. With 16 teams, this works out to a 21 game schedule ( a bit light but allows more time for playoffs etc).
We hear there are concerns from players and parents on travel and cost and we feel the expense will not be much different than in the leagues where you now play.
Financially, a league budget will be minimal due to people coming forward to volunteer services. Thinking at this stage is funds will be held during the season for no shows and fines. Suggestion at this point is $800.00 per team.
The purpose of this note is to announce the name and to bring you up to date. Please vote next week (résumé's on each candidate will be supplied) and return your decision as soon as possible. Our formal announcement to the press etc. will be made at the Provincials in April. We will also have a league meeting at that time.
