Response to OWHA - Do we need them?
I think the girls get short changed on ice, short changed in Ontario Championships and absolutely sub standard officiating. Let's deal with the first two. A standard rep boys Bantam game is 3-15 minuted periods with a flood. Midget is 3 20-min. Why is ice unavailable to girls. This story has been ongoing since the birth of ringette. It is a RIGHT!! Ontario Champions christened in a luck of the puck 30 minute shinny game is absolutley unacceptable for the largest womens league in the world!!
We are part of the OHF and their governance is dictated. Owha cannot change anything nor is anyone interested in doing so. So acclamations abound!! It's called apathy, the enemy of inspiration.
As long as every mother father player and executive is wiling to concede an unfair ratio of icetime then forever expect to be always condescending to boys hockey. BS!!
Now the OWHA is trying to get refs however when the exec tells the referees to change the rules instead of following CHA guidelines then confusion will arise and the best referees head to themens games.
If you want an example try this. Cha dictates a momentary pause if a player tries to "freeze" the puck intentionally. (it is allowed in the book) Owha has instructed it's refs to allow both teams extended time to smash and slash the puck away. Move it the ref hollers and the defensive player is looking down trying to find the puck!! This has been embraced to allow the puck to sit motionless for many seconds. Injuries are the eventual result as well as giving a scoring opportunity to the offensive team if the defender falls or is double teamed. Only a matter of time before a major injury results.
Thge OWHA took this rule and threw it out. A safety issue is disregarded and a smart defensive play is now not possible. Ruining the game! Ya but it won't kill the game you see because you don't even need a ref to play.
---or is this the way you like the game, tell me!!
