Despite Kingston not allowing a goal in four subsequent games including exhibition, their defensive zone coverage is weak. Nepean certainly took advantage of this and opened the flood gates to beat them handily 7 to 1.
In order for Kingston to beat Nepean, they’ll have to keep close man coverage with Nepean’s #12, Giles. She has great speed and always a scoring threat when left unchecked. Kingston’s offense will also have to solve the great goal tending by Britany Wilson. Kingston took several clear-of-line shots from the blue line where any veteran goalie would have no difficulty stopping. To beat Wilson, they’ll need to clutter the goal area and shoot from close range.
The comment about Kingston “starting the party too soon” perhaps is somewhat true. Kingston’s line-up is filled with highly skilled players such as Brooke Beazer (U17 Team Ontario), Liz Kench, Allison Bagg, Kirsten Trost and Julia Kellum. Their coaching staff will have to get these girls mentally prepared next time when the two clubs meet.
Nepean and Kingston will probably play each other another six times through the remainder of this season, expect the scores to be much closer.
