Cyril Leeder, the only remaining original executive and the current Chief operating office(COO) of the Ottawa Senators and Corel Center spoke to those in attendance about the Senators wish to extend the teams involvement in the community and increase their involvement in women's hockey. He said their association with The Ottawa Lady Senators was a perfect match and the Senators were excited about the opportunity. He spoke powerfully about the Senators committment to this program and welcomed all of the players into the "Ottawa Senators Family".
"You only get one chance to have a first season"
The Senators are willing to assist . The exact form of that assistance will be determined in time. Details were not provided.
They will not open their cheque books but they have the means to provide assistance to the team in many other ways. The Ottawa Lady Senators will actively pursue fund raising in the business community over the summer to raise the necessary funds, using the Senators name and contacts.
Nothing will be given to them. This team will have to earn what they get. The Senators, Bell SENSPLEX and the Kanata Girls hockey Association have provided the opportunity now the hard work begins. Fundraising activities are being discussed now.
The tour of the facilities was handled by 2 of the Senators game day hosts. They told stories of visiting teams and players and some little known facts about the Corel center and the running of the team. It was actually quite enjoyable and interesting. They showed the nearly 40 people in attendance where Wayne Gretzky signed the dressing room bench on his last visit to the Corel center and other interesting tidbits.
YOU should have been there.
