I happened to be looking over this book the other night and was surprised to notice how very much like a Charlton Book this looked like. The stories were similar to the Charlton product, and even the
lettering was the same. All the stories were by Ditko except the last story, an unsigned Ayers job.
This was published by St. John, the only job by Ditko for that company, I believe. Was there some sort of connection with Charlton?
I have that comic. It struck me as very Charlton-ish, too, but it also reminded me of the stuff Ditko was doing for Prize at about the same time. I think the second issue is all-Ayers.
I don't think there was any direct connection between the two companies, but I think that Charlton ended up buying some St. John inventory after the comics line was shut down.
Nick, I was reading a Dick Ayers interview in AE the other night, and he says that he didn't do any work for St. John, but that the DYBIN stories were bought by Al Fago for HIS comic company, and then re-sold to St. John. Since Al Fago's outfit was probably some kind of partnership with Charlton, there may be more of a connection than I thought.
