Thanks, I've been reading up for a couple of days on converters, but you have put it in simpler terms. A few questions...
1 How would the additional components of the C5 lock-up converter cause symptoms if failure occurs? I have read that if the clutch slips I would have poor acceleration, but that does not explain why the reverse works fine.

2 Also, if it were that the pump or gear went south, I cannot explain how the problem suddenly went away for a few minutes twice the day it started failing. Moreover, the bands and the direct clutch appear to be applying well as per the transmission braking when downshifting (even if it slips when I accelerate) the transmission DOES brake when I downshift, so I don't think it is the overall internal pressure being affected. Maybe it is just the pressure to the forward clutch? Maybe it is the forward clutch itself. What could cause the FW clutch to fail? I made sure the seal went in the correct way with the groove pointing in the right direction.
