You're fine with the tranny and the 289. All 289,302,351C/W engines interchange trannies.

A lot of people have had success with the transplant. However, running FI on a 66 is tight. Might want to search the net for those who have completed the project.

The AOD is a fine substitute -- it can be tricky to get the TV linkage set up but once it's set it's great.
