| Looks like lack of lube due to a clogged cooler. Probably the TCC came apart. Fragments from a bad convertor may have helped promote leakage out the front. Another thing is if you were 3 quarts overfull, you could have suffered some aeration causing the fluid to puke out.
If you have the stacked plate style auxillary cooler, get rid of it, when clogged they are very difficult to get clean. Even the cooler circuit in the radiator is questionable. When we have bad contamination I like to install the Tru-cool 4739. It's a big cooler and cost big bucks too---but you'll have no worries with it.
Sonnax makes a nice no-walk case bushing for the E4OD. You might even need their oversized bushing if your stock bushings spun.
The center support wears on these. it kinda sinks into the case. You machine .048 off the center support and Sonnax makes a snap ring that goes in the case to provide a seat with much more surface area. This support wears because everytime the OD clutches apply, the full force of the OD piston is pushing on the center support. The problem then becomes that the center support gets cocked promoting leakage to either the FWD or DIR clutch--I can't remember off the top of my head which circuit. But, either way, this leakage can cause a burnt clutch pack over time.
These always need a boost valve. Always need a Line PSI Modulator valve---they come in different sizes, I like to use the .427 diameter. To tall ya the truth, I quit using the PR valve. I just drill .062 for full time lube. I have been getting rebuilt solenoid packs--half the price and the same failure rate as a FoMoCo.
There are a few holes to drill in the seperator plate and a few in the pump.
About slamming into FWD. As I remember, there is a FWD engaugement control valve in that little VB that sits on the bottom of the main VB. Now, I haven't dealt with a problem in that area, but it might be worth looking into.
Also, get the spiral snapring from Sonnax for the OD Bellville Spring.
Have a phone number? I can fax ya some stuff.
