I have a couple more questions for you (and anyone else that knows about these transmissions)
I have been informed that the clutch plates from an FMX transmission will also fit a Fordomatic.
I have also been told that the flat plates from the front clutch can also be used to replace the dished plates in the rear clutch and you just need to add an additional steel plate to make up the extra thickness.
I checked this last night and it is correct
What I only just realised is that the Fordomatic friction plates are brass or bronze, not fibre like most transmissions.
Would it be better to put fibre plates in rather than bronze ones in either or both clutch packs?
Did Ford just use bronze because the technology wasn't available for high quality fibre ones back in the fifties, or are they used for a particular reason that this transmission must have them?
