Toploader clutch fork interchangability.

Since I've been converting my C4 to a toploader transmission I stumbled on a few problems that I solved by working around it.
My main problem/question now is the following,
My car is a 1970 Mustang with 302 small block.
The Rug m1 toploader (390cui '67) I have has the 11 inch flywheel and diaphragm pressure plate.
I have it all mounted and started mounting my long tube headers, now the small block equalizer bar fits right in but the clutch fork
is hitting one of the header tubes without it being able to move even a bit.

Since this is the clutch fork belonging in a 390 set up I wondered if I could replace it with the much shorter and straight small block clutch fork to gain the needed travel and to make it fit the 302 set up ?

Are these clutch forks interchangeable to fit on the throw-out bearing on both small block and 390 or do these blocks use a throw-out bearing with a different outside diameter ?
Simply stated, can I mount a small block fork on a bearing used in a 390 4spd ?

Thanks in advance.

Clutch fork

I believe the 390 and small blocks all used the "small" input, which is 1-1/16" diameter. Therefore the small block clutch fork will work, and be more likely to work properly with the small block bellhousing since that's what it was designed for.

Only the 427, 428, 429 and possibly later Rancheros used the "big" input from what I found with some quick research.

Thanks for the info Craig.
I just bought a second hand fork from a small block car, I'll try and fit it tomorrow.
Hope it works out fine.

Problem solved

The small block 4 spd fork fitted right in the 390 4 spd, it is the same diameter shaft and bearing.
It's now under a different angle and a lot shorter, completely free from the headers with sufficient travel to move.

Thnx.
