just bought a 89 ford bronco with a 302/aod.....it has 14 bolts on pan right?......it will only go in reverse no foward action at all and i have limited expertise with any tranny.....can someone please help?

Probably AOD, pan will say METRIC on it, and have a TV lever and cable hooked to the drivers side.

My first vote is the TV cable has come loose at the throttle body which lead to total trans destruction. See if you find a cable dangeling next to the intake.

Either way, the trans sounds dead...loosing fwd or even first gear is usually not good.

it has 14 bolts on pan...does not have metric on the pan.....it has 54 stamped on bell housing....trans code on door says "t"...?

It is the updated AOD (not AODE). Check the fluid level with the engine idling in Park.
It sounds like you have lost the forward clutch. It is time for a rebuild or a new transmission.
If the TV was completely disconnected it shouldn't have reverse if it doesn't have any forward gears.

I feel confident it is and AOD if it is an 89 truck...the AODE was not available until 92. The 4R70W was not widely used until 94.

If the TV cable was unhooked, that doesn't mean reverse would not work.
Reverse is stand alone and is not associated with the FWD drum, so there for it is very common that it will be left working - until you use it enough to kill it too
