C6 Reverse

Hi all, 1975 F350 with 460 and C6; 72000 original miles. Purchased 2 years ago (I'm 2nd owner). In past year reverse was kind of "jerky." Found melted hose, replaced, things fine. A week ago reverse became almost nonexistent. Have to rev high to get to backup. Fluid level is fine, drive is strong. I was thinking vacuum hose, but can only find one on right side that is the one I replaced (still in good condition). Are there others I am missing? Could it be sticky valves? SHould I try Slick50 tranny treatment? Please don't tell me it's the band, because my wife won't let me spend the money to get it fixed. She doesn't see the allure of a 70's green truck with mint interior.

All adviced appreciated and welcomed! Thanks in advance.

It's a clutch pack.
Either rear or direct.

The direct clutch is used in both high and reverse.
There are no adjustments.

Without sounding like a moron, it still consists of a rebuild, doesn't it?
