Hi All,
I have a 1958 Ford Retractable The speedometer has not worked since I bought the car. Here is what I found so far. I disconnected the cable at the tranny and attached it to a cordless drill. The speedometer and odometer operate, so I know these are good. I replaced the gear at the end of the cable with a another 1 with less teeth, same result, nothing. The engine is not original to the car. I believe it is a 390. The red ID tag on the transmission says 352 PBM-U. The first question I have is, do I have the wrong gear at the end of the cable, and if I do, how to I get the right one. Second, can I remove the tail housing on the tranny to get at the driven gear, and repair or replace this.Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it is a pain to drive with no speedometer. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance....Paul

The speedo gear can be replaced by removing the extension housing.
