I am looking to lock out first gear in a C6 but not use a manual shift. Basically I want the vehicle to start in 2nd gear, automatically shift to 3 and back to 2nd all while in drive. I know it can be done in the valve body but I an not sure how. Any help will be appreciated.

Mike

If you get a 1966 valve body that option is already there. As well as the normal 1-2-3 shift pattern.

Called a dual range.

Thanx for the reply but is there a way to modify my current valve bodys as I will be doing about 30 of these?

If I understand your request. You should be able to pin the 1-2 shift valve down(shifted position) and this will lockout 1st.

Pinning the 1-2 shift valve will work....

However you will never be able to select manual low ("1").

The trans will bind up in manual 1 because both 2nd and 1st will be applied at the same time.

That could be a serious disaster if the gear shift ever got accidentally knocked into 1 at hiway speeds.

If you physically restrict the shift linkage so that it is impossible to select manual 1, then ok, block the 1-2 shift valve in the up shifted position.

We put FNR shifters in the trucks, all the selection they have is forward, neutral and reverse. If I may ask, can you post a picture of the valve and how to pin it down? Thank you so much! Mike
