I'd love to see trip pics for your favorite Iowa destination(s). That'd be a good incentive for me to get over there! Thanks.

the Boone

Here is a pic from the Boone (one of my favorite places to paddle and a couple block from my house). You can paddle it for around 30 miles years round (except for the ice) and around 50 - 60 during higher water. Look for Webster City if you try to find it on a map (north central).

I'll just direct you to my website that has the pics posted on it. These are both nice areas (one creek, one large reservoir), and are some of the best paddling pics I've taken, as I was brave (or foolish) enough to take along the new digital camera. Both of these would be a few hours on the road from Nebraska, but worth the trip in my mind - lots of other nearby spots to make a weekend out of it.

Lizard Creek (near Fort Dodge)

Lake Red Rock (near Knoxville)

More about red rock

The Lake Red Rock pictures were great. Can you give me more details on where you put in at. We live only 20 miles from there but haven't had the opportunity to canoe there yet.

We plan to canoe the Des Moines river from Tracy to Eveland access this weekend. Hopefully this rain will help the water levels.

Red Rock

I put in at the east boat ramp of Elk Rock park (on the gravel road), then started paddling west (towards the mile long bridge). As you head west, you'll see the "main point" sticking out, and that area had some interesting rock formations. Have fun.

I have a couple pictures of the Upper Iowa river near Chimney rock but I can't seem to get them posted. Any hints.

first log in, then reply or start a new message, and the bottom of the message there will be an insert object button. If you don't want to do it that way then you'll have to upload them to a place on the net that lets you store photos for free or email them to someone who has webspace (email them to me an I'll post them for you, if you want).
