Wife out of town, kids to busy to drive a tranport car to a take out for me, and I have the day off. So I did somthing I have never done before. I put my solo Canoe on my car, Drove up to the Iowa River north of Oxford, put in and paddled up stream for 21/2 hours then floated back to the car. Seen lots of Ducks, Wild Turkey, and some Deer. With the great Fall colors it made for a Great Day.
Once a year we do an overnight on the Iowa. We put in at the Ramp by the Iowacity Airport and take out just south of HWY 22 by Lone Tree. It is an 18 mile float but if you dont make to many stops on the way it can be done in about 7 hours. We only go for about 4 hours then find a nice sandbar to camp on and finish the rest of the trip the next day. The section I was on by Oxford was flowing around 300 cfs. I think Iowacity hills area is around 169 before the rain last night. Way back when I was a kid my Dad, myself, and a friend canoed from Hills Iowa to the Mississippi in a home made Canoe, some day I would like to repeat this trip but have just been to busy.
