Looking for Good River Trips

It has been a few years since I was in a canoe and I would like to know about some good river trips in the eastern Iowa area (live in Iowa City) for me and my buddy to take out canoes out on. Last year, I finally acquired my grandfather's old aluminum canoe and a friend found a similar aluminum through a coworker for less than $200.00. We both lucked out and really want to make use of the boats this year.

I canoed with the scouts and remember a horrible trip the spring of '93 on the Cedar River. I do not know where we put in, but we planned to stay at the "Friend's Cabin" along the way. Does anyone know about this cabin or what would have been the logical place to put in? We were to pull out in Saulsbury Park in Muscatine County.

thanks -John-

I grew up in IC and graduated from the UI and now live in the QC

have you ever canoed the Upper Iowa RIver? it is about a 2 1/2 drive from IC, but worth the drive. there are some nice sections of the iowa River which are rather fun to paddle. The Maquoketa river is also a nice shallow river worth the short 1 hour drive. i have never paddled the cedar river, but it looks very similar to the Iowa River.

paddle on...
