Big brother' rapes autistic teen

Thus did 14-year-old Mariz (victim's real name withheld) begin her startling revelation, which spoiled her mother's viewing of the Final Eviction Night of ABS-CBN 2's popular reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother at their house in a Pasay City subdivision Saturday.
The autistic Mariz said she was repeatedly molested and raped by a 57-year-old neighbor who has been a real-life "big brother" raising several nieces and nephews.
Mariz's mom Maria Tendenillo, 44, did not lose time to seek police assistance, leading to the arrest of the suspect, Josefino Patingo, alias "Kuya Pating," of Block 13, Lot 6, Comet St., Don Carlos Village, Pasay City.
Detective PO3 Rodolfo Soquina described Patingo as a Bible-wielding "false prophet clad in sheep's skin but truly a revenous wolf inside," who allegedly abused Mariz "countless times."
During intensive questioning, Patingo at first claimed to be a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo, but would later admit on the record that he has been with the Dating Daan sect for three years now.
"Ayaw ko kasing madamay ang Dating Daan," said Patingo. He denied the charges but refused to comment any further on the accusations of child abuse -- including rape -- on the advice of his lawyer.
On Friday, around 9 p.m., Mariz averred she was enticed by Patingo to play "bahay-bahayan, Pinoy Big Brother style" with him, along with his eight-year-old niece and 13-year-old nephew.
"Pinaligo po ako sa itaas ng bahay ni Kuya Pating, tapos pinahiga ako sa papag, tapos dinaganan ako," Mariz said.
She went on to claim: "Sabi ko, ayoko, Kuya, masakit... Sabi niya, talagang ganyan sa Pinoy Big Brother... Pagod na pagod po ako, pero ayaw tumigil ni Kuya Pating."
Patingo, a former garments factory worker in Carmona, Cavite, told People's Tonight he had helped raise his nieces and nephews until he was laid off from work.
He faces charges for violation of Republic Act 8353 -- otherwise known as the Anti-Rape Law -- and RA 7610 or Anti-Child Abuse Law.
Patingo is now detained at the Pasay City police headquarters.
