January 17 2009 at 11:36 AM

Joe,

It seem like we have a fake auction for a Tower Bottom Key listed on eBay. Its a zero feedback seller using your pictures and text;

Always good to have a professional write your description and take pictures for your listings. But they'd sell better with a good story about how they were used by an expatriated nazi to hold insane love slaves in the hidden basement dungeon of his haunted house.

Did You Report It To Ebay?

eBay report

Dear Kevin,

Joe doesn't report things like this to eBay, but I do. I also sent the seller a message telling him so and why. My reason is that the buyer, if there was one, would get something other than pictured. The seller "ended this listing early". Oddly, this has been my only activity on eBay in almost a full year.

Cheers,

Jack

I received the following reply back from eBay. I'm amazed that they actually gave me a germane response:

Dear Dennis,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your report on Image and Text
Theft.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with this information. I
understand how this situation could be of some concern.

I have reviewed the information that you provided regarding the use of
images or text in item number 260344956822, but at this point find that
I do not have enough evidence to show that the member has violated any
eBay rules.

Regrettably, we will only be able to take action if the owner of the
images or text writes to us. In some instances, sellers may have
obtained permission to use the material. Therefore, we often cannot
remove listings based on the representations of third parties whose
credentials we cannot verify.

We do understand the potential for further issues in this type of
situation. That is why, if you feel strongly about this issue, we
recommend that you contact the owner of the images or text, and
recommend that they contact us directly. Once we hear from them, we will
take appropriate action.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your concerns.
Thank you participating in the eBay community.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Sincerely,
Jeoffrey Z.

I did write to eBay, but I did not yet receive a response.
On the other hand the auction was closed.
