To Polish or not to Polish to Ebay or ...

February 6 2009 at 11:31 PM

We have a really nice set of Mattatuck handcuffs that work great with a key from Ian.  They are doubles in our collection and are thinking of listing them on ebay.  We have two quesitons of the experts here.

1.  Is eBay the best place to sell them or if we put them in the store at www.erestraint.com would they sell and what would be a good price to set them at?

2.  They are pretty clean as you can see.  We do have a buffer that could make the areas where the plating is gone shine as bright as the nickel.  Should we buff them up or do the collectors like the old looking oxidized appeareance better?

Either post your ideas here or email admin@erestraint.com">admin@erestraint.com>

nice cuffs, i prefer the original worn look, if you buff them up you will make the plating that much thinner around the bare areas, this can cause the nickle to lift off the steel, and make a sharp edge around the unplated areas. the "lived in" look is more desirable i think. as for price, no idea!. and i try to avoid ebay at all costs.....

If you were talking about a rare cuff I would say leave them alone, but these are not rare. I have seen the results of your polishing and the final product is very nice. I would say go ahead. I think it will increase the value of the cuffs.
