Handcuff Display Cases

March 28 2009 at 11:08 AM

I am negotiating for the acquisition of a lot of engineer's flat files. These have drawers ranging between 24 x 36 inches to 36 x 48 inches, and from one to three inches deep. I won't know exactly what I have until I start loading them on the truck.

These are ideal for storing and displaying handcuffs and restraints.

I'll be listing these as well as some file cabinets, bookshelves, and junque, on Craig's List, but I wanted to give "our People" a first crack at them.

I'll post more details when I have them.

Hello,
these flat files are very expensive and they are too big for my home. They are very wide and have more depth than ordenary furniture, so there is no room for them. So i makle smaller items by myself: they are ca. 25" wide, 16.5" deep and 29" high. They have 10 drawers, each has ca. 2.5" free hight. I make first two of them putting one on top of the other, they fit exactly in an unused corner next to the door. Price is a little bit cheaper than new flat files, but expensive enough, because i use "rails" for the drawers like in the kitchen, so drawers can be pulled out fully. I think, these "rails" will be used for most flat files also.

Best regards
Andy

Dennis,

I strongly can recommend flat file cabinets for storing a restraint collection. First, Im living in an apartment and don't want to show my collection for everybody visiting my home. Second, they are very heavy and safe with locks which make them very protective against thefts. I bought my first flat file cabinet in 2005 and now I have three of them. There are in total 3 x 10 drawers which house more than 400 restraints. They are not that expensive they used to be, most companies store their drawings digitally these days. Pictures below.

Cheers,

Lars

Duh! Sorry. I live about an hour out of Chicago, in Indiana.

This is a cabinet that I unfortunately did not get last year. But I've been trying to find something similar since. Filing cabinets are as close as you get to convenient and practical storage, I don't like metal ones, though

The display box I once built from an Ikea frame (Fanaholm) for $20 (plus the hinges).

Unfortunately, the flat files deal fell through. The building required Union Laborers to move the material. That made it about 800 bucks to move the free file cabinets; too steep for me.

Sorry for jerking everyone around.

Nice try Dennis-too bad it didn't work out. Lar's cabinets look great. Most of the new 10 drawer metal cabinets I found run about $1400 plus shipping. There are some decent looking wood cabinets that are a lot cheaper but the description doesn't say whether the drawers have the good metal slides. I suspect they do not which might make operation a little sticky with heavy cuffs. The wood cabinets are in the area of $500 and several places have free shipping.
