Response to Contest #9 'Recent Favourites'....And the winners are......

I agree with Mercia--there are a lot of very helpful comments and that makes the contest really worthwhile.

I was going to chronicle the wrens every day, but something got them two days after the contest photo.

The nest was in a bark bucket on my front porch:

And I used a stepladder to get the shots. The parents kept them so well fed that it was hard for me to get them to beg all at once like that. This was the second attempt. Three eggs were abandoned earlier in the year. After it was obvious that the parents weren't going to try to hatch them, I took them to my wife to use for decorative purposes in hopes that another attempt would be made.

If a parent was around when I did my photography it would go down to the other end of the porch and make a lot of noise trying to distract me. I never saw an eggshell. The parents take tham away from the nest so that predators aren't attracted by them. Sadly, it didn't help this time.

If the babies weren't begging, they were totally limp. Those big heads really wobbled around when they held them up. Here's number one son or daughter taking a nap face down:

Thanks for the votes! There were a lot of teriffic shots to compete with. I just got lucky on the subject matter.
