Response to Now 8.875 in NY as of 8/1/09 thought it may have increased_nt

I understand if I (from overseas) purchased from business direct I would not pay NYC Tax but still not economical with freight and no warranty. I would need to get camera into Aust at all up cost of $2700 US to compete with Singapore or Hong Kong. My thought is to pay $3900 Aust ($3300 US) and get a free battery and three years Canon warranty for peace of mind.

Just some info how Australia structures its price. By law, the advertised price must include all taxes so price is WYSIWUG. Then you see if you can obtain a discount. All Aust States have a Federal 10% General Service Tax on essential new Goods and Services. No tax if used. I think there is a luxury tax on luxury vehicles over $75,000.

Example, if you wish to travel around the world then the airfare advertised must include all airport arrival and departure taxes so an airline cannot advertise a fare for $2000 and you pay $2600 all of a sudden to include other country taxes.

Does all US States have a State tax of new goods. Not sure why cannont be included in advertised price.
