Your comment reminds me of Chris Matthews

One night he had MG McCaffrey on and was asking him the same question as to how the soldiers regarded someone who was in the Guard during Vietnam as Commander In Chief. Matthews mind set was very apparant. McCaffrey's answer was that the soldiers had an unusually high regard for Bush. These two guys weren't even remotely on the same page. Matthews thinking the troops would scorn Bush for being in the Guard while never thinking, never crossing his mind, that they wouldn't like Kerry for his anti-war and anti-military actions and votes.
