Response to Thats right.
Isn't that right, Constitutional monarchy boy?
The electoral college was designed to balance political power between the states. Our founders spent many hours studying the history of the world's democracies and deliberating among themselves before concluding that "one man, one vote" was an open invitation to mob rule and anarchy. We live in the United STATES. Our Constitution was created to protect both individual liberties AND state's rights. Our Civil War was a war between the STATES. We have never been a democracy. We have always been a federal republic. Democracy is the guiding principal of our federal republic, not the defacto standard.
Now let's look at Canada. Has there ever been a "democratic" government as crippled by provincialism and defined by conflicting Old World loyalties as yours? How many times has Quebec tried to break away? How often has a PM been elected from some province other than Ontario or Quebec? How long did it take before Canada finally established something similar to the US Bill of Rights?
You can slobber all you want about "one man, one vote", but until you practice it in Canada, your view of Americans as ignoramuses is nothing more than a reflection of your own nation's shortcomings.
