Response to Tell that to the MUSLIM WOMEN....
This issue was raised in the report, inclusive of a mandated, one on one with a government legal represenative which CLEARLY defines their CHOICES!!!!!! Then there are the Mulsim womans organizations, all going quite public, pledging assistance to even the most unenlightened....
Freedom of choice for all, including women of Islamic faith.
You might find it interersting to know the Jewish communities in Ontario certainly have no problem with Islam recieving the same rights as they, HR. Watched some rabbi from Toronto on television last night who, sitting beside a Tororto based Iman. He urged the community to ignore the disinformation and put this is its proper context. He explained that family law is quite similar in all three religions and that no ones rights were being compromised in either Jewish or Muslim faiths when THEY decide to turn to their mosque/synagogue for resolution.
Of COurse, they know!
THey know that they, HR, have the most to lose.
Ontario, and Canada, will never do anything contrary to our principles as a nation, certainily nothing that will have us branded islamoracists.
Not going to happen.
And considering the furor the report has raised in the conservative press, I dare say the liberal government (Boyd is New Democrat-left) will respond by ABIDING by the constitution/bill of rights and abolish the entire practice, inclusive of priveldges the Jewish and Christian communities have enjoyed for decades.
EVEN THOUGH ALL THREE COMMUNITIES ARE ALLIED IN THIS INSTANCE!!!!!
Instant equality under the law.
Either weay, I'm good with it. Be a shame to strip Chritian and jewish institions of their powers, specially as they have been pretty successful in relieving pressure on family courts.
But........ unlike in notzink ville, we can not have a double standard when it comes to religion in this nation.
That standard, btw HR, is established by our Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights.
