My parents went back to Germany a few years ago. They could not believe how much it had changed. To being more crowded to being more dirty. A lot of Eastern Europeans and Russians living in the country.
The old landlord of my family's apartment (and 85 year old war veteran) complains about how those from the East who are the dole make more in a month than he and his wife get from their old age pension.
The look at all the money poured into the former Communist East as a total waste. About the only thing that seems to come out of the East are Neo-Nazi skinheads. An obvious result of high unemployment and unchecked immigration (not that it excuses their movement).
Of course it is difficult to put a price tag on all those families that were reunited when the wall came down. |
