haven't heard anything lately. But even during Katrina, the MSM alluded to the idea that LA was little more than a kleptocratic state. You know, the drunk uncle that everyone feels has to be invited but everyone tries to ignore the fact he's a lush?
Had an uncle that was stationed in Fort Polk at one time. When he left the military he decided to live there in a rural parrish. He met up with the Head Parishioners daughter and they eventually got married. This was during the late 70s or early 80s. Her father was equivolent to what we'd call a county commissioner here. However, there was just one there and he called the shots. I remember late one nite fishing with my uncle and dad saying to me "hell your uncle could kill someone out here and nothing would get done about it." My uncle smiled, but dad always swore that this was the way it was down there. He was the Parishioners son in law, that made him family, and as such he could do anything he wanted. NO ONE at least in that parish would do anything about it. I'm guessing the more urban areas are more modern, but some of those parishes in LA are still very rural and old ways die hard.
