I consider myself a Western secularist, so I'm not holding Bush to task for any perceived hypocricy about his religious beliefs. On the other hand, I would completely ignore the letter from Ahmadinejad, which reveals what we already know about radical Islam. Like similarly radical religious beliefs, the psychology is primarily juvenile, which makes the nuclear threat far more palpable than the old Cold War scenario.
That perspective allows me to summarily dismiss any piece written to explore a common religious ground between the West and her enemies. This is another chapter in an old conflict dating back to the Crusades. No one - much less a journalist - should be fooled into sympathizing with the purveyors of radical Islam.
