Response to But, but, but...
Many Canadians don't want our troops in the Middle East because all we ever see are
1. The opinions and justifications from white cowboys such as GWB, who obviously have other reasons reasons for invading Iraq that have nothing to do with Terrorism.
2. We can see the Iraq invasion was a sham that was done for the interest of a few rich elites rather than the common good. Afghanistan and other areas are reasonable, but there was never a strong connection between Islamic terror movements and Hussein's regime. Hussein wasn't a strong religious believer at all, and only ever connected with that once he realized it was to be to his advantage to get the Islamofascists on his side.
3. We see and hear of our soldiers getting killed every single day. We're getting slaughered in Afghanistan and the death toll is rising rather quickly lately.
My guess is that the CBC would have tried to portray her as a Bush administration lackey, and frame her commentary as pro-war propaganda. And most Canadians would have enthusiatically embraced it. Do you ever actually watch CBC news or are you just embracing a stereotype?
I tell you what... if you see a lot more people from the Middle East dish out stories of corruption, terror, rape, maltreatment, oppression, etc...then you'll see more people understand why we have troops over there. When all you see is GWB going on the warpath, it's easy to ask "Why the hell should we trust this *******?"
If you see women like the one in the interview, then you realize "Hey, there actually is some sick **** happening over there." It would be nice for more women like her and more 'moderates' to finally stand up and denounce the backwards element of their religion and let us know about WHY we need to stop it.
