You can't put too much stock into the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries, even though with the media-onslaught, you'd think it was the general election already. NH is a far more reliable gauge of the candidates than are Iowa's arcane, distorted caucuses (Dems skew left, and GOP skews way-Christian Right), but you still don't win the nomination until the big states start weighing-in, particularly in the "Super Tuesday" avalanche of primaries coming in early February.
That said, it is clear that Shrillary is in some trouble right now, looking tired and weepy in a widely-repeated video-bite yesterday. Not a very presidential performance, imho. She may recover yet, she's got a powerful contingent behind her, a large war-chest, and the Former Prez behind her, but she's got to start looking like a viable candidate soon. Today would be a good start, if she can recover from the pounding she took in Iowa, and finish strong in NH.
I think America is ready for either a female or a semi-black man as president. I just don't think either of these two are the right ones, to win a general election. Shrillary is the most-polarizing political figure of our time, and has been since her hubby first cruised into office. The people who don't like her,
really don't like her. I think she's a very strange political animal, myself, willing to do or say anything to get elected. If elected, she would govern according to the polls, as her hubby did. I don't see her as being up to the task of fighting this global war on terror, which isn't going to end just because Bush's term is up...it's just getting started, and it's going to get uglier than most people want to think about.
I don't see Obama winning, because he's a babe in the woods, politically. He's got a very good vibe, that resonates with the young Left, all about the positivity and the healing. The general electorate is more realistic, and won't elect him just because he opposed the Iraq war from the start, which is his main calling-card. He hasn't shown much substance, and I don't think he has much substance to show. I think there are several GOP candidates who would wipe the floor with him, in the general election. The mainstream media doesn't like that kind of talk, they
really want a Dem to win this time around, but there it is.
There is a racial-divide in America, I'm not going to deny that. I figure Obama will lose at least 5% of traditional Democratic votes because he's not a white man. That would be enough to kill him off, right there, if the election in November is as close as the last two have been.
It's just getting interesting, now. I have to admit, I don't have a strong idea of who's going to get either nomination. We'll find out a bit more today.
Obama trafficking drugs? Clinton camp on the buying end? That's not good publicity, for either side!
