No, no, I'm not the last Conservative on the Left Coast, there are at least a dozen or so more, all just waiting for the chance to rise up and howl at the moon. I'm less sure of weathering the storm, though; it's harder and harder to keep the business rolling in a place where it seems as though everyone deserves a free ride, free home, free medical care, free recreation, free birth control, free, free, free... The only place to go for the dough is the pocket of small business. Neveda is starting to look better every day, Texas would be even better.
Actually, Doris and I only have about 2 1/2 years to go before collecting our own SS checks. I may put it off until the max age, when I can work all I want and still get my checks. All this assumes there will be monies available to cover the Old Fart Generation. We have a little cabin on a lake in Northern Minnesota that may become the summer home when retirement beckons. Too cold in the winter, brrrrrr, -15 degrees F last week.
Firefighter? Don't they have an age limit, or at least an age recommendation? More power to you if you carry it through. When I think of it, most of the volenteer firefighters in my little Minnesota hometown were senior citizens.
I absolutely agree with you concerning our "kids". They deserve more support then they will ever receive. When I returned from my second West Pac cruise to Viet Nam, I swore I would make every attempt to greet any returning vet I ever met - I still try.
As for politics, all I'll say this evening is, next fall should be very interesting. If the dhimmis hold on to solid majorities, all hope of our kids living in a true representative republic will be lost. As some famous person said " a government big enough to give you everything is big enough to take everything away". I'm sure I didn't get the quote exactly right but you understand...

All conservatives and just about 100% on the same path as this short, fat, gray old man.
Good to hear you are well - Georgia can be beautiful, especially in the late spring and fall.
