But recognize that the facts being displayed there aren't the whole picture. I disagree with the notion that the statehood issue is the cause for islamofascism. Look through out the history of the arab world and you will see pieces of it. Look at the desolate places that those people had to live and you can understand that religion beyond anything else HAD to be grasped else no other force would have given that group of humanity any reason to live. Recognize that first Roman, then Eastern Roman, then Vatican Roman and finally European Colonialism has consistantly tried thruout history to subjugate these same people. Sometimes for years on end. Even prior to the Roman culture boom, the Greeks were at war with Persians. Can one not see that these people have a human history of dislike for the West? Add to the fact a NY based world consortium literally in a fit of guilt set up a religious state smack in the middle of that same geography to help out a minority religion there. To my knowledge never asking permission, only settling on that to appease those whom they had let down in their darkest hour by appeasing the greatest enemy known to man.
I wish it was as simple, but I have to agree Smike on the issue of statehood for Palestine, I do not however share that it is the root cause. Merely a cure for a symptom that is used regularly by the fascists. They will surely come up with another symptom, but as we eradicate them we will marginalize them.
IMO, these people see no hope at modernization, they know their religion will hold them down and they are at war with themselves. They hate us for making them see the big picture and willing to kill us for the temptation. I also have no doubt that without their natural resources, they'd get no more attention to their religious zealotry. Since we as a planet have virtually ignored it every where else. The people of Afghanistan were allowed to be oppressed mercilessly for five years and it would have continued if not for 9/11. While it cannot be condoned, who could have blamed a man or woman there for cheering, at least inwardly, for finally someone who coudl make a difference would notice them. This is where I have a problem with the thoughts about the war in Iraq.
Even if the reasons for doing it may or may not have been sincere. The end result could be that a group of human beings may finally be able to enjoy what most in the west do. Some say who are we to say what is best? I sincerely retort that if anyone can the West can. I know it rubs the Euro way of thinking the wrong way when I say something that brash but the facts are the facts. In the west you rarily see people systematically killed in the thousands. Infant mortality rates are lower, the quality of life is better, and we do all of this while recognizing the rights of individuals to be Muslim or Christian, atheist or polytheist. It matters not to any of us with a true sense of freedom. We abide by laws not created to stamp out a group but rather balanced for the good of all. And we're not afraid to say we were wrong when we were and as in the case of Americans, tell you we were right when we were (I'm a yank, I can bash myself here I think) There are many other reasons that people who are smarter than me could come up with. But one of the most important aspects of western freedom and liberty is the right to say pretty much anything you want to. It is the cornerstone to American freedoms as it is almost anywhere in the west. And for that reason alone this post should stay, for whether we agree or disagree is irrelevant. As true patriots of freedom, his right to say it supercedes our beliefs. Shout him down an idiot or up as a man of enlightenment. Just don't stoop to the levels of our enemies and yes, they are enemies of us ALL. To do that wins at least one battle no matter how small for them in this war of ideologies.
