I remember when the American Presidential election was going on. Between articles published in Canadian newspapers of how Canada drastically preferred Kerry, and Canadian posters pushing for Kerry, it only made Americans lean towards Bush more. The same applies here. Let's face it, the Canadian political spectrum is farther to the left than the US, so anything right of centre here is deemed to be American, unfortunately. I say unfortunately not because I don't want to be like Americans - I actually spend a lot of time trying to make Canadians realize we're naturally too much alike to spend so much time trying to find differences - but I say it because for some reason it strikes a nerve with people in central and eastern Canada.
I firmly believe that given a chance, a Harper government would make some great improvements in this country. Unfortunately, at best we're looking at a minority Conservative government which would only mean the Liberals filibustering any attempt at implementing any of these ideas. |
