"I really don't expect New York Times columnists to provide a balanced perspective about American Jews, but this piece is a perfect illustration of the condescending PC mindset of our media elite. Warning: it's long."
Since I'm mainly here to cut and paste I at least ought to drop an opinion. The author writes 'colorfully'. What decent writer doesn't these days? He is arrogant and snotty, no question. If that is what you find condescending, HR, then I agree. However, the cynical tone and posture is applied by Traub not exclusively to the ADL. Sure you can see that having read the entire piece. Judt, the Polish diplomat, does not come away unscathed. Actually, the author comes off as an equal opportunity offender and at that, only for his insistance on a clever turn of phrase. This is in no way a Politically Correct piece. It is not PC because it teeters within the range of balance and Traub has obviously seen to that as a more serious feature before indulging in those clever asides. In fact it is politically incorrect.
PC clones will be itching to deem the piece anti-semetic. Taking care to not constantly play that card, it will be attacked as liberal, anti-American, or other pejoratives similarly irrelevant to the topics broached in the article.
