10 Sqn Massacre?

Some time back I read Geoff Taylor's book the Nuremberg Massacre and researching 'Shiny Ten'I seemed to have recorded that on that fateful night of 30th March 1944 some six out of twelve Hallies from Melbourne didn't make it back.

I now have Gordon's tour with Shiny ten booklet ( J. Gordon Shirt) before me saying that only LW 881 went missing on that night?

Now I may have made an error transribing from Taylor's book some time back (easy enough done ... figures getting mixed up, weariness etc ) and since I don't have Taylor's book at hand can anyone give me accurate losses from 10 sqn on that notorious raid?

Trying to reconcile the difference in figures

Hi Ivor,

On the night of 2/3 Feb 1945, 323 aircraft (277 Halifaxes, 27 Lancasters & 19 Mosquitoes of 4, 6 &  8 Groups) set off for the target Wanne-Eickel oil refinery according to The Bomber Command War Diaries by Middlebrook/Everitt.

At least 8 Halifaxes were lost on this operation.  If you could give me the last name of your fathers uncle I can look up which Halifax he was onboard.

Regards

Linzee

Nuremberg ?Raid

Darryl : If you can get access to Martain Middlebrook's , pocket book entitled " The Nurembeerg Raid" you will find a complete account of this raid. On page 336 the losses for 4 Group are listed, 10 Sqn had only the one, but 51 Sqn had 5 missing and one crashed in the UK. (Sorry I mispelled the first name it is Martin) Good luck on your research. Ian Duncan.
